The City Council of Bilbao used Bluetooth transmitters the week previous to the Aste Nagusia and during the Aste Nagusia to promote, especially among young people, the use of night buses. The Aste Nagusia is the main festival in Bilbao and lasts one week.
The City Council of Bilbao wanted citizens and visitors to the city to have the content of the Aste Nagusia in their mobiles, highlighting the festivities and including a timetable of the night buses. The campaign was carried out between 16th and 28th August 2005.
Six Hypertag Bluetooth stations were placed in the centre of Bilbao, next to bus shelters. People could download an application that included a full programme of festivals, the night bus’s schedule and the polyphonic ring tone of the festival.
Besides, three young people wearing a portable version of the Hypertag stations encouraged citizens throughout the city to download the poster and the polyphonic ring tone. They only had to activate the infrared on their mobiles to immediately receive the content for free.
ivista also designed a website. The users of this site could download from their PCs to their mobile phones the same content that could be downloaded from the stations, completely for free. They could also see information about the Bluetooth transmitters and where to find them in Bilbao.
