Renfe Bilbao Bluetooth campaign
CLIENT: RENFE

On January the 9th 2007 the pioneering proximity marketing campaign was launched for Renfe Cercanías Bilbao (the local train service of Spain’s national rail company) and extended until March 9th.

A totem with a Bluetooth unit was installed in Bilbao’s main rail station, where users could download an interactive Java application that included schedules, fares, interactive maps, as well as a free ring tone, for their mobile phones. To support the campaign, a website was created to give more information (operating system, compatibility with mobile phones…) and to offer the possibility to download from PC via Bluetooth, infrared or cable, as well as via GPRS.

The entire campaign was handled by ivista, including J2ME application development as well as Bluetooth setup and management. The results were incredibly positive with thousands of downloads during the two months of the campaign. Users commented on the usefulness and simplicity of the application, something our developers always love to hear.
