Holographic Interactive Nativity Scene
CLIENT: TELEFÓNICA     AGENCY: OGILVY ACTION

The agency Ogilvy Action asked ivista to find unique technological solutions to decorate Telefónicas’s flagship store in Madrid for the traditional Christmas season. The result was the first Holographic Interactive Nativity Scene in the world, as well as a chance for people to participate in a videoconference with Santa Claus.

ivista was responsible for all aspects concerning the installation of the Holographic Nativity Scene, from designing the stage to filming the traditional scene. We used a special holographic projection system coupled with special filming and post production techniques to create a true 3D effect.

We added interactivity using infrared detectors to allow for interaction between the public and the projection. Every time people approached the screen, they activated a series of actions (a little shepherd greeting people, a “Merry Christmas” message, etc.). The action began on December 3rd and remained active until January 5th.

In addition, Telefónica gave the youngest ones the chance to talk directly with Santa Claus, who was at the North Pole, and after December 25th with one of the Wise Kings via a videoconference from the same flagship store. To do this, parents had to go to one of the laptops in the zone to fill in an online form with personal data and information of their children (names, school, likes and dislikes, the present they were wishing for at Christmas, etc.). This information appeared instantly on a large screen in the studio where Santa Claus was while talking to the children.
Another screen showed the children speaking to him, while the children saw Santa on their own screen. Needless to say, the children were thrilled that Santa knew so much about each of their lives, and knowing exactly what their Christmas wishes were.
ivista was responsible for the entire set up, including the installation of hardware and application development, and related maintenance throughout the campaign.
